Instead of looking for Mexican crema at your local grocery store, consider making your own with ingredients you may already have on hand! With a tangy twist and a delicious addition to just about anything where sour cream is asked for Mexican crema is a true life changer!

3/4 cup sour cream

1 teaspoon lime juice, from approximately one half lime, plus more if desired

1/2 teaspoon lime zest, optional



1.     In a small bowl, whisk together sour cream, lime juice and zest, if using.

2.     Adjust seasoning to taste with additional sour cream, lime juice or zest as desired and store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days.


Kitchen Note: Depending on whether you like your crema tangier or not, add as little or as much lime juice and zest as you wish.
