Coffee makes for a great addition to not only your morning routine, but to stews, dry rubs, brownies and even marinades! This recipe is beyond simple and makes for a great marinade on everything from steak to chicken.

2 1/2 tablespoons honey
1 teaspoon instant espresso powder, like King Arthur’s
1 garlic clove, minced
1 small shallot, minced
1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
3/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
kosher salt, as desired
freshly ground black pepper, as desired
1. In a medium size bowl, add honey, espresso powder, garlic, shallot and vinegar. While whisking, gradually add olive oil until emulsified. Adjust seasoning to taste with salt and pepper. Alternatively, add all ingredients to a mason jar with a tight fitting lid and shake until fully incorporated and emulsified.
2. Fully submerge your protein of choice in the coffee marinade for at least 30 minutes, flipping the protein halfway through to ensure it is evenly marinated.
Kitchen Note: Before adding all your protein or vegetables to the marinade, consider saving a portion of marinade to be used as a finishing drizzle before serving.
